IMPHAL, May 7: Twelve communities co-inhabiting at the Tarung Village area today staged a sit in protest against the May 6 firing upon at the house of Rongmei Lu Phuam (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) president Panti Golmei.

The protest was organised at the Tarung Auto Stand, Grace Colony.

Speaking to the media, secretary of the local Meira Paibis, Memcha said such violent activity in the residential area is totally unacceptable and leaves a fear psychosis among the locals.

RK Ajuanliu, a resident of Grace Colony said those involved in the attack should clarify at the earliest as the people want to live in peace and are against such violence.

IMPHAL, June 7: The Secretary of Education(s) in a press release stated that a child belonging to socially disadvantaged group including HIV affected/infected groups and child belonging to a weaker section and/or disadvantaged group shall be segregated or discriminated in the classroom, during Mid-Day Meal, in playgrounds, in the use of common drinking water and toilet facilities as per the Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act 2010.Also, the State Government has constituted the Manipur Commissions for Protection of Child Right Act under section 17 of the Commission for Protection of Child Right Act 2005 and in view of RTE Rules, all the concerned District Officials dealing with RTE are instructed to ensure that no child living with or affected by HIV/AIDS be denied admission in school, expelled or discrimination in the schools under their jurisdiction said the Joint Secretary of Educations, Government of Manipur.

IMPHAL, June 7: A police team of NAB detected five grams of heroin powder from the possession of one woman, namely, Rota Tangkhul, 32, wife PK Hanreimung Tangkhul of Homleikhong Village, PO & PS Sangshak, Ukhrul District. She was arrested in front of ISBT, Khuman Lampak along with the seized heroin powder, conveyed it in a press release issued by PRO police.

IMPHAL, June 7: Ahead of the 13th Great June Uprising, Unity Day, 2014 observation on June 18, residents of Zomi Villa and Kekru Villa cleaned the Kekru Pat Martyrs Park starting from 6am today.

The Great June Uprising is being observed on June 18 in commemorating the mass uprising of the people against the extension of ceasefire between the NSCN (IM) and the GoI ‘without territorial limit.’

18 people had laid down their lives during the agitation in 2001.

The observation will be jointly organised by the UCM and AMUCO at Kekru Pat.

Speaking to the media, field and stage of the 13th Great June Uprising, Unity Day, 2014 organising committee, convenor W Gonendro said that the UCM and AMUCO have extended gratitude to all the people of various societies, Shumang Lila groups, film groups, musicians, rickshaw drivers and others who participated in the cleaning activity.

He further appealed to all to participate in the observation

IMPHAL, June 7: In view of the likelihood of serious breach of peace, disturbance to public tranquillity and grave danger to human lives and properties in the whole area under the Jurisdiction of Imphal East district, the District Magistrate, Imphal East district, M Joy Singh has notified for imposition of Cr PC 144 in the entire district.So, it has become expedient to prohibit assembly of 5 or more persons which is likely to turn unlawful in the mentioned areas and also prohibit carrying of sticks, stone, firearms and weapon of any descriptions or objects which can be used as offensive weapons from 6 am of June 7 to 6 am of June 8.However, the order is not applicable to the agencies of the government involved in the enforcement of law and order and maintenance of essential services. Furthermore, persons who want to take out processions, public meetings, rally etc within the scheduled area may apply to the District Magistrate, Imphal East District for permission, said the District Magistrate in a press release.

IMPHAL, June 7: The Women’s Development Association, Wabagai Awang Leikai held a meeting on June 5 at the local community hall against the alleged attempt of 60 year ol Md Bilad ALi to snatch the earings of a minor recently.

The association has in a press release demanded action from the concerned authorities to take appropriate action against the crime.

It has also said that the final match of Kang tournament between HAWK and WALYDA for the 14 anniversary of Arambam Samarendra will be held on June 10.

IMPHAL, June 07: With a vision to maintain more quality in the modern Manipuri music, the Apunba Manipur Matam Eshei Kanglup (AMMIK) is organising a Music Festival in Imphal at Lamyanba Shanglen from June 12 to 13.

Spokesperson of AMMIK, Narendra Ningomba speaking to the media at the Press Club, today, said that on the first day of the festival non-professional singers will perform. On the second day, there will be a fusion music performance by orchestral bands that are registered with AMMIK, he said.

He further appealed to all the members of AMMIK to take part in the said festival and further requested the members not to take any programme on the announced dates, so as to make the festival a success.

So far 26 bands have registered for the festival.

IMPHAL, June 7: The RFP/PLA has clarified in a press release that the outfit is not related in any manner whatsoever with Md Abdul Rajak, 37, son of Md Abdul Rahim of Kshetrigao Awang Leikai reportedly arrested by a combined team of the Imphal West District Police Commando and Moreh Police Commando from Khagempalli machin Bus Station.
