IMPHAL, July 15: An extortionist was apprehended by residents of Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi and handed over to the police this afternoon.

The culprit has been identified as Oinam Rishikesh 32, son of O Tomba Singh of Sangaiprou Maning Leikai.

Sources informed that the extortionist was caught around 1.30pm while trying to serve a demand letter to retired dean of RIMS Dr T Yumjao.

A demand letter of United Revolutionary Front Organization signed by finance secretary Parikaba and president Yaisana a moped bearing registration number MN01Z 3214, two mobile handsets and cash were recovered from him. He was later handed over to the police.

IMPHAL, July 15: A five-minute silence was observed remembering the departed soul of (L) Ngalangzar Malue, ex-MADC, Ukhrul by the Autonomous District Council,Ukhrul.

A press release of the ADC, Ukhrul has said that it condemns the brutal killing of the ex-MADC by unknown miscreants on July 12 at Finch Corner while he was on his way home to see his dying mother who also passed away on the same day.

The members also share the grievances of the bereaved family, it said, while expressing that its members do not have enmity with any individuals/ organisations and appealed to the concerned individual/organisation to clarify the killing at the earliest and not to repeat such acts in the future.

IMPHAL, July 15: The All Manipur Students Union (AMSU) has announced that it will be conducting a donation drive from tomorrow in connection with 49th Hunger Marchers’ Day celebration.

Speaking to the media at their head quarter, general secretary L Regan revealed that a new donation receipt with counterfoil will be used instead of the old one.

He said that the new donation letter will bear the signature of AMSU finance secretary, S Anil.

He appealed the public not to entertain any donation if any person comes seeking of donation bearing the old receipt.

Meanwhile, L Regan also informed that the AMSU is going to celebrate its golden jubilee next year for which he invited suggestion and supports from others students’ body and NGO’s of state.

The secretary also revealed that it has opened a unit at CC Higher Secondary School from today.
