IMPHAL, November 25: The Thadou Students`™ Association, General Headquarters has strongly condemned the inhuman act of the 44 Assam Rifles posted at Chassad/Kamjong in Ukhrul district towards the villagers.
According to a release of the association, the 44 AR called up the bike owners of the Aishi village on November 24 and tortured them by alleging that the villagers had allowed valley based UGs to enter their village.
In all13 of the villagers were called by the AR to their camp at around 2.30 pm and were brutally assaulted despite their denial and lack of knowledge on the UGs.
The villagers identified as Jangkholun Haokip, 38, son of Ngamkhojang Haokip, S. Lunminthang Haokip, 28, son of S. Semkholen Haokip, Lunminlen Haokip, 33, son of Demkholun Haokip, Mangminlen Gangte, 37, son of Jamneo Gangte, Letkam Haokip, 50, son of Jangkhosei Haokip, Paolen Haokip, 29, son of Hemjangam Haokip, Thangsei Vaiphei, 25, son of Ngamhao Vaiphei, Ngamtinthang Haokip, 40, Paokam Haokip, Kailensat Haokip, 35, Thangkhai Haokip, Dempao Haokip,55, Zamngam Haokip, 40, son of Jangkholun Haokip, Mangcha Haokip, 44, son of Douthang Haokip and Letmang Touthang, 38 were released at 10 pm after they were mentally and physically tortured by the AR personnel, it said
The association has appealed to the concern authority to look into the matter and bring an amicable solution or it will put up the matter to Union Home Minister since the central and state forces are entitled to safeguard the citizens instead of harassing them, it said.
