IMPHAL, December 29: Commemorating the 158th birth anniversary of Bir Tikendrajit, befitting floral tribute was paid to the freedom fighter of Manipur at Congress Bhawan, BT road, Imphal today.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPPC) president Gaikhangam led others including congress workers in paying floral tribute before a portrait of the leader.
Speaking to media persons at his office chamber after the observation, Gaikhangam said that the anniversary was observed in honour of Bir Tikendrajit`™s supreme sacrifice for the State.
Expressing hope to see the State produce more youth like the martyr, he called upon both the hills and valley to spread the message of unity and integrity in the State.
He said people of all communities irrespective of caste and creed should work together for the future development and to assert peace and harmony among us.
Responding to queries regarding the recent Uripok blast and apprehension of two suspected to be KYKL cadres in connection with the blast, he said that minute investigation will be conducted to find out the truth. If the duo arrested in connection with the incident will be released if they are found to be innocent.
Gaikhangam reiterated that the two were apprehended by the State police following a tip off of their having connections with the KYKL Tompok faction.
He lauded the swift investigation of the police in cracking the series of blasts in the State off late.
On the other hand, responding to queries on Desmond Coutinho, who was recently sent to judicial custody for making public nuisance, he said the British embassy must have been informed of the issue by the authority concerned.
He is being treated the same as other inmates in the Sajiwa prison, Gaikhangam told the media persons.
Gaikhangam who also holds the home portfolio, informed that to conduct the Republic day celebration smoothly, the State security will be put on patrolling round the clock.
