IMPHAL, March 20: The Manipur People`™s Party, MPP, Central Committee Members served notice for the president of the party, N Sovakiran Singh, to resign from presidentship for violating the constitution of MPP and giving the party to a bad image.
Speaking to media persons at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today, a Working Committee & Central Committee Member, N Singhajit said that after N Sovakiran Singh assumed presidentship of the party in March 2013, the party has not been not able to make any impact on the political arena of Manipur, so much so that it could not even sponsor any candidate in the last parliamentary elections held in 2014 both for the Inner and Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituencies.
The party however had sent a representative for the Hiyanglam Assembly bye-election, 2014 sponsoring its vice-president A Amutombi Singh, but lost the election miserably despite the party reportedly spending around Rs 10 lakhs, he alleged and added that the outcome of the bye-election has damaged the credibility of the party badly. This was the election where MPP voters themselves have rejected the divisive policy of Sovakiran, he added.
He further said that after each election, it is a practice for every political party to take stock review of the election and look into what went wrong. But the MPP leadership was only interested in the account matters of the bye-election and passed the expenditure statement for the bye-election and utterly failed to take responsibility of the overall development of the party.
The bitter reality of MPP at present and it is further deterioration is regrettable but it is hoped the party would be able to reform and regain its pre-eminent position in the State, he said.
He alleged that the president of the party acted in the most despicable manner and took a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the chowkidar Y Shanti.
Shanti`™s service was later terminated for his part in the allotment of two shops, B/1 and B/4 in the party`™s complex. It was also discovered the president made allotment of six shops, may be more, without the knowledge or prior approval of the working committee in violation of art XIII (2) of the constitution.
