KOHIMA, Apr 23 (NEPS): Parliamentary Secretary for Irrigation and Flood Control, Y Vikheho Swu said the Naga youth had the potential to become best sports persons but they were not explored yet.
Speaking at the “Certificate award ceremony” of the participants who successfully completed “Badminton Umpires Clinic” held from April 21 to 23 here at Badminton Indoor Stadium under the aegis of the Nagaland Badminton Association (NBA), the Parliamentary Secretary, who is also the president of the Association (NBA), called upon the Naga sports persons to keep their heart and soul in their sports and asked them to do away the “casual attitude” towards it.
He said the state could have progressed much in the field of sports looking back the 51 years of statehood. “But it is not so, though some progress are there in some sports,” he pointed out. “In particular sports disciplines, they are even yet to start.”
Lauding the 16 participants for their successfully completing the “Badminton Umpires Clinic” program, Swu said they were trying their best to see that the Badminton technical officials reach to national and even international levels. “We will try our best to conduct such another ‘Badminton Umpires Clinic’ program very soon in Nagaland,” he asserted calling upon them to give their best while performing their services.
International Badminton Referee, H Gyaneswor Singh, who conducted the “Badminton Umpires Clinic” for the last three days successfully, expressed his happiness on the successful completion of the “Clinic.” He lauded the 16 successful candidates and said they had the potential to become national and international badminton umpires provided they give their best in it.
C Tinu Pongen, retired national badminton umpire, also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, Parliamentary Secretary R Tohanba, distributed the “Certificates” to the successful participants.
