CHURACHANDPUR, October 1: In a new positive development which will benefit the students community in Churachandpur district, the JAC Churachandpur has announced that schools in the district will be allowed to reopen from Monday.
It may be mentioned that students had been barred from going to their schools for more than 30 days now.
A press release issued by the JAC`™s information and publicity this afternoon, indicated that following a meeting of the JAC representatives and leaders of various village committees/ authorities and women groups, it has been resolved to make certain changes in their agitations schedule from Monday.
The main resolution of the meeting was to allow the educational institutes in the district to open till noon from the coming Monday and relaxation of bandh in the district from 5am to 2pm, it said.
It also said that dharna will be staged at the Lighthouse/ Sielmat Lamka, District Hospital, Police Station, Rayburn College from 5pm onwards and the concern VA and committee may make necessary arrangements to suit local needs and situation.
Meanwhile, it may be mentioned that education institutions in the district had remained closed for a month now worrying parents.
Some have also expressed that they want the JAC and the private schools association to exempt the students`™ monthly tuition fee as a majority of the parents cannot work during the month due to the prevailing situation.
They have also expressed that if the full fees cannot be exempted at least 50 percent should be as they also had to go without their salaries which has already taken a toll on their earnings.
Meanwhile, responding to an IFP query to reflect on the present educational scenario in the district, a 14-year-old class X student from Hiangtam Lamka, Muanniang (name changed), said she was not ready to attend her classes as the nine martyrs are still lying at the morgue.
She said she would like the educational institution to remain close and further admitted to have frequently taken part in the dharnas.
Meanwhile, in another development, the Zomi Council speaker and general secretary has issued a press hand out stating that the council has accepted the resignation of its chairman LB Sona on moral grounds for his decision to bury the bodies of the nine on or before October 6 which did not go well with the people.
It said vice president G Vungsuanthang will be in charge chairman of ZC until further order.
