IMPHAL, Oct 18: Oil tankers bringing in oil from various supply points in Assam will begin to be escorted back to the state from October 20 onwards, according to an official source.
This precaution is in view of the 48-hour bandh in the state`™s hill districts scheduled to begin midnight tonight, called by the JAC formed against the killing of a KNF cadre and a civilian by the 8 Assam Rifles at Kadangband on January 28 last.
According to spokespersons of various transporters associations, the escorting duty for inbound tankers from Dimapur will be the responsibility of the CRPF based Dimapur. They will meet CRPF personnel escorting empty tankers from Imphal at Khuzama in Nagaland and at Mao Gate, and each will escort the inbound and outbound transport vehicles while returning to their respective bases in Dimapur and Imphal, they said.
Even otherwise, official source said there is no cause for worry for oil shortage on account of the 48-hour bandh as all government depots are well stocked.
