IMPHAL | July 16
Janata Dal (United) had today urged the N. Biren led government to take proper measures in the present flood crisis in the state.
President of the party’s Manipur unit, Hangkhanpao Taithul gave a clear reason for not contesting the 11th Assembly election 2017 that it is not the weakness of JD (U) but stated that he will contest in election only if he is sure to win the vote.
Addressing reporters at his residence in Zomi Villa, he said that the former party president, M. Tombi had defected to Shiv Sena, however, Taithul gave his best regards for his endeavours.
He said that this is the party’s first get-together after the election with all its active members and executives to discuss party policies and future prospects.
He said that the state is in a disaster like situation with flood and losses making rounds of news on a daily basis. But the government seems not to care that much and is easy going in its tackling the situation.
He also expressed discontentment over the negligence by the central government. Hangkhanpao said his party does not see that the central BJP government is not helping the state government in its time of need.
He recounted that when Modi visited Manipur in 2014 February, he promised many things in Langjing Achouba where he gave his speech. Modi may have forgotten but the people still remember and so, he urged the NDA led government to remind their national leaders to develop the state and fulfil what he had promised.
The party appreciated the initiatives and conducts taken by Biren government in bridging the hill-valley divide by going the distance especially sitting the first ever Cabinet session in Churachandpur district. But he also urged the state government not to only make assurances but to work on their promises made their work visible to all.
