Home guards continue fast-unto death protest

Lamphel police pick up the five protesters of 13th batch, fast-to death protest of the Home Guard’s Association and the 14th batch of the fast-to death protest started from today’s afternoon.

It has been two weeks the home guards personnel took up agitation demanding to increase their monthly allowance as directed by the Supreme Court.

During a recent meeting with the home guard representatives with the chief minister and other officials, the chief minister told them that the government can increase only Rs 2000 in their allowance as the state has less resource. On the other hand the home guard personnel had claimed that 90 percent of their allowance is to be given by the central government.

As the government cannot fulfill the home guard’s demand during the meeting, the association had decided to wait for a positive response from the government till the last day of the month by continuing the fast-to death protest.
