A one-day legal awareness programme was held today at Government Deaf and Mute School, Takyel, Imphal West in the aim to give legal awareness to the students regarding their rights.
The programme was organised by Legal Aid Clinic, Social Welfare, Imphal West and sponsored by District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West in connection with the 19 days long observation of the Legal Services Campaign “Connecting to serve” which is started from November 9.
Speaking as resource person advocate, Ch. Momon spoke on the topic “POCSO” and “Juvenile Justice Act”.
He said that as children do not know what is right or wrong the Indian Constitution is giving special provision for children for correcting their mistake by keeping them in observation home if they have any conflict with law.
POCSO is an act which applies to any adult when any child under 18 years is sexually harassed by same or opposite sex, he added.
Prizes were distributed to both the winners and participants of the painting competition that was organised earlier.
Students of the school performed a play on “communal harmony and unity” as a part of the programme.
District and sessions judge, Imphal West, Maibam Manojkumar, chief judicial magistrate, Imphal West, Lamkhanpou Tonsing, Government Deaf and Mute School, Imphal head mistress, Nongmaithem Kalpana attended the programme as presidium members.
Earlier at Savio English Higher Secondary School, Thangmeiband the District Legal Services Authority, Imphal West distributed prizes to the winners of the painting competition conducted on the theme “Function and Activities of Legal Service Institute in Manipur.
