IMPHAL, December 2: Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the government to arrive at an amicable settlement with the All Manipur College Teachers Association (AMCTA) before the undergraduate exams, DESAM general secretary Pukhrambam Premchandra stated today. It may be recalled here that AMCTA has launched various forms of agitations to mount pressure on the State government to deliver on their long standing demands.
He was talking with media persons in a press meet at the DESAM head office. If the government continues to evade these issues, the students will face disturbances as the teachers have decided to boycott the semester exams of BA/BSc that begin on December 4, Premananda said, adding the government have time till tomorrow to resolve the issues if they are concerned about the education of the students.
He also said that DESAM will not remain a mute spectator if the government fails to bring a solution before the examination.
It amounts to violating the Right to Education and disturbing the academic atmosphere of the students if the government doesn`™t sort out these issues, he added.
Premchandra informed media persons during the press meet that a meeting will be held in the DESAM head office at 11 am with the representatives of Manipur College Students`™ Union to discuss the issues.
DESAM has further appealed the representatives of the students`™ union to arrive on time for the meeting.
