IMPHAL, January 17: The road safety week 2015 organised by the Department of Transport, government of Manipur under the theme `safety is not just a slogan it`™s a way of life` concluded today.
A cycle rally was also taken out as part of the concluding programme today. Around 40 cyclists took part in the rally which was organised by the department and the Manipur Cycle Club.
Spreading awareness of the benefits and tips of cycling, the cyclists set out from the Transport department office and after passing along Keishamthong, Nityaipat Chuthek concluded in front of the Ima Keithel.
A walkathon was also organised by the department in collaboration with WOL media with students of GP College, TG Higher Secondary School and Jonhstone taking part.
The students who were seen holding placards which read `Obey traffic rules`™, `no mobile phones while driving`™, `reduce speed at turns`™, use helmet`™, `use dipper at night`™, `respect the pedestrian`™, `don`™t drink and drive`™, etc. also spread awareness of road safety to the passers-by.
Transport director Maracnchan Luikham said students will have to play a vital role in spreading awareness on road safety tips.
He said the week will be conducted in the future too.
