Imphal. May 28 NNN : A memorandum has been submitted today to the Union Minister, DONER by All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) supplicating for special financial package in favour of financially constraint professional students of Manipur in particular and other North Eastern states in general.
The memorandum signed by its president D.P Panmei and general secretary Romeo Bungdon stated that the North Eastern students are never lagging behind others mentally, intellectually or spiritually and are bestowed with divine wisdom and tradition; but being economically weak these students cannot afford to get through their professional courses as most of the time they are engaged in stress of poverty oriented psychologically, which often diverted their study and learning concentrations.
Moreover, some of these students cannot even get admission after clearing entrance exams due to financial constraint, since the course fees incurred semester wise are so huge even in government established/run institutes, leave alone private sector institutes, added AMTU.
It further stated that another matter supplementing to the economically feeble professional students is the much reduced scholarship provision against the real figure amount at the time of admission being provided to some selected caste/tribe/backward categories.
“That, these above matters of Socio-Economy which are abstract and less expressed traumas effected so many students to the extend of drop outs from their academic courses or sometimes being reduced to the poorest by having sold their little owned properties to meet the course fees. These less seen phenomenon have been the hindrances to our North Eastern students’ side kicking their academic careers and ethics. It is a matter of serious concern to be solved, as it is obvious that developing and elevating Human Resource in the North East India will strengthen our region and country in various aspects at the global criteria which is undeniable”. These were stated in the memorandum.
A Special Financial Package for North Eastern professional students particularly for Manipur to ease their unspoken grievances was requested by AMTU to the Union DONER minister.
