Imphal, Oct 16 MNS NNN: Chief Minister O Ibobi Tuesday inspected the work progress of the Dolaithabi Barrage Project now under construction during which he stated the project being taken up under the Prime Minister’s package will be completed by March 2014.
During the trip, the chief minister was accompanied by Irrigation and Flood Control minister, Ngamthang Haokip, Irrigation and Flood Control Department chief engineer, Th Indramani and other officials of the department.
The Union Planning Commission approved Rs 18.6 crore as the estimated cost for the Dolaithabi Iril Project being constructed over the Iril River in the year 1992. The revised estimate of the project undertaken by the state IFCD under the Central Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme (AIBP) is Rs 360.05.
Stating that the Dolaithabi Project will be completed by March 2014, chief minister Ibobi said the construction of the project will be accelerated as the monsoon ends and the working season starts. He assured additional labour force will also be engaged to work round the clock.
He informed more than 50 per cent of the construction has been finished so far and after its completion the public will be benefitted by it and that target has been set to complete the project in stipulated time.
The construction works of the Dolaithabi Project is undertaken by National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC). After completion, the project will provide irrigation to 7585 hectres of land area. Crop fields particularly in Imphal East will get benefit from it. The project was included in the Prime Minister’s Project in 2008.
