IMPHAL, November 18: “Due to lack of sponsorship and infrastructure, many fine badminton players could not be produced from the state,” said Director General of Police, Y Joykumar, who attended as the guest of honour at the concluding day function of the 37th Junior National Badminton Championship 2012 at Khuman Lampak today.

He further said that even though some 20 years ago some national badminton players were produced by the state, but today it has failed to produce any fine players. Badminton is among one of the games which suits with the state but being a poor state it lacks sponsorship as well as infrastructure, he said.

He appealed the BFI office bearers to into the matter as well as to sponsor the players of the state. He also said that it is time that the state associations start working to produce fine badminton players of the state.

The BFI organizing the Junior National Championship here is also a step to promote the game in the state, he added.

The closing day function was attended by Parliamentary Secretary, YAS & Tourism, M Prithiviraj Singh, president of Manipur Olympic Association, Bijoy Koijam, Special Secretary & Director YAS, H Deleep Singh and DGP Y Joykumar as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.

In the U-17 boys singles, 2nd seeded player Aditya Joshi of Air India beat 1st seeded player Harsheel Dani of Air India by 14-21, 21-5, 28-26.

In the U-17 girls singles, 3rd seeded player Ruthvika Shivani of Andhra beat 1st seeded player Reshma Karthik of Air India by 21-13, 21-23, 21-16.

In the U-17 girls doubles, 1st seeded players Sruthi KP/Farha Mather of Kerala beat 4th seeded players Reshma Karthik/Sanjana Santosh by 21-19, 21-19.

In the U-17 boys doubles, Sanyam Shukla/Gangadhara Rao V of Chattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh beat Chandrakumar DBS/M Kanishq of Andhra Pradesh by 21-16, 21-13.

In the U-19 boys singles, 5th seeded player Harsheel Dani of Air India beat 2nd seeded player Aditya Joshi of Air India by 21-19, 18-21, 21-17.

In the U-19 girls singles, 9th seeded player Ruthvika Shivani of Andhra Pradesh beat 4th seeded player Rituparna Das of West Bengal by 21-17, 21-5.

In the U-19 boys doubles, 1st seeded players Gopi Raju/Hemanagendra Basu of Air India and Andhra Pradesh beat 2nd seeded players Shyam Prashad/Shlok Ramchandra of Kerala by 21-16, 21-16.

In the U-19 girls doubles, Ruthvika Shivani/Poorvisha S Ram of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka beat Meghana J /Maneesha K of Andhra Pradesh by 21-10, 21-12.

In the U-19 mixed doubles, 1st seeded players Hemanagendra Babu T/ Meshaba J of Andhra Pradesh beat 3rd seeded players Gopi Raju G/Poorvisha S Ram by 21-18, 23-21.
