Imphal, Dec 19: One killed and three others were injured in three blasts in Imphal on Wednesday.
A a hand grenade was hurled at one Laishram Kheda’s house at Liwa Road Oinam Leikai in Imphal West near Manipur University by miscreants resulted in the dead of one carpenter and two injured. Kheda is said to be a contractor. The incident happened at around 5:20 pm.
The deceased has been identified as one Maibam Bira (53), a carpenter while the injured have been identified as Oinam Sanayaima (40) and Lourembam Manja (37).
A search operation was conducted by the security force personnel and following this, an encounter between some unknown gunmen and the security force personnel, a report added.
while a man was injured when two powerful bombs exploded near Imphal east district police headquarters. Two vehicles of CRPF were damaged.
The two IEDs went-off around 10.10 am at a spot along the Baruni road between Imphal East district police headquarters and Porompat police station. The IEDs were planted on both sides of the roadside and the second one was triggered after a gap of around four minutes.
Police suspect the IEDs were triggered using remote control devices and targeted a convoy of 143 CRPF returning to its post at Lamphel in Imphal West district after fetching drinking water from Porompat water supply scheme.
The water tanker of the CRPF and a bullet proof vehicle that escort the tanker were hit by the splinters of the blast. However, no casualty was suffered to CRPF personnel.
Driver of a water-tanker fetching water for a private hospital from the same water supply scheme, moving behind the CRPF convoy was also hit by the impact of the blast. The driver of the tanker identified as Shaik Mustak Ahmad (38) sustained splinter injury in his right leg. He has been rushed to JNIMS hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.
One of the IEDs was planted on the earth that was piled up on the roadside while the other one was planted underneath the earth on the roadside just opposite to the earlier one.
