IMPHAL, Dec 19 MNS/UNA: Five militants belonging to two groups under Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the government, involved in the recent kidnapping of two employees of a private brick field in Imphal and released after taking Rs 15 lakh were nabbed by a team of Manipur police commandos.
Two of the nabbed cadres belonged to Kuki National Front (KNF) while three of them belonged to Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP)-Lamyanba Khuman. Both the groups are signatories of suspension of operation agreement with the Centre and state government.
According to additional SP, Imphal West N Herojit Meetei, the two KNF members identified as Douagin Haokip alias Beeny (35) of V Vengnom Laizon Veng, Churachandpur and Takhellambam Anand alias Max (38) were first arrested by a team of police commandos attached with Imphal West district police yesterday (Tuesday) while the three KCP-Lamyanba were nabbed in a follow up action.
The three arrested KCP cadres were identified as Naorem Kheman alias Prem (36) of Thoubal Bazar, Angom Ibochouba alias Punshiba (38) of Moirang of Bishnupur district and Khuraijam Helemjit Singh alias Naochouba of Mayang Langjing, Imphal West district.
The additional SP said that the two KNF cadres were arrested yesterday around 5.30 pm from Nagamapal area of Imphal city when the police commando team launched an operation based on specific information that some members of the KNF who have bee working together with KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) group in committing many prejudicial activities were loitering in and around the area.
During the operation, the team discovered two persons standing suspiciously by a dark blue Santro Car (MN-03P/0910) at Nagamapal opposite to Tangbra Optical. They were detailed and on spot verification they were identified as KNF cadres, Herojit said.
Based on the disclosure made by them, the police commandos launched another operation at Joute hillock of Sadar hills of Senapati distirct and recovered one AK rifles including nine live rounds.
KCP cadre Noarem Kheman was also nabbed in another operation based on the disclosure made by the two KNF cadres from his home at Thoubal Bazar by the Imphal West police commandos assisted by Thoubal police commandos on the same day, around 7 pm.
An amount of Rs seven lakh which was a part of Rs 15 lakh that was taken as ransom from kidnapping two employees of HVS Construction Pvt Limited, Patsoi in Imphal West district was recovered from his possession.
Mention may be made that two employees of HVS Construction, Hawaibam Suresh (22) and Jalauddin Barbhuiya (27), a resident of Assam’s Hailakandi district were kidnapped by KCP Lamyanmba Khuman activists from Keithelmanbi area on November 25 last and later set freed after taking a ransom amount of Rs 15 lakh allegedly.
Two more activists of KCP, Ibochouba and Helemjit, were picked up based on the disclosure made by Naorem Kheman from Nambol Bazar today morning around 6.30 am, the additional SP said, adding that one 9 mm pistol with a magazine loaded with three live rounds was recovered from the possession of Ibochouba and one .32 pistol with one magazine and two live rounds was recovered from the possession of Helemjit Singh.
The additional SP said that all of them were directly involved in the abduction of the two employees of the brick field and out of Rs 15 lakhs extorted by them, police so far recovered Rs seven lakh.
