IMPHAL, January 20: The Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation campaign was organized under the aegis of the Directorate of Family welfare services, Government of Manipur at the premises of the Family Welfare services, B.T. Road. Speaking at the inaugural function, K Rajo, Additional Director Family Welfare, said that a large number of people who have been infected with polio since childhood become handicapped till their old age. Adding that the concerted efforts of the Government and assisted by various agencies have helped more people to access PPI and said that India was declared as a polio free country after no child was reported to be infected with polio in the last two years.
Stating that Polio immunisation programs are organized twice a year so as to prevent children from polio infection by administering polio to children below 5 years of age, he urged the teachers and local clubs to extend support to the campaign.
Ram Muivah (IAS), Principal Secretay, Health and Family Welfare Manipur said that two drops of polio prevents a person from physical handicaps . The campaign was also taken up in various other parts of the state by different social agencies and organizations.
Meanwhile, the 69 Bn CRPF today organized a massive Pulse Polio Immunization Program at Mantripukhri today in which more than 250 children from 0-5 years were administered Polio drops. The program was inaugurated and personally administered by Mr and Mrs B.D. Das, DIGP CRPF, Imphal Range; Mr and Mrs Rakesh Kumar Singh, Commandant 69 Bn, CRPF.
