IMPHAL, February 9: The Manipur Students’ Federation will be checking books, newsletters and magazines in the state and see whether the books suit the culture and tradition of the land and if there is any features which can mislead youngsters and students. Any books found carrying such features will be banned.
This was said by general secretary of MSF, RN Koireng speaking at the 7th anniversary function of its academic campaign “Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamsi” held at Lilong Higher Secondary Madrassa in Thoubal district today.
This was one among the 11 things which the student body has announced to take up during the academic session 2013.
The others include, survey to check whether Board of Secondary Education Manipur prescribed books for class I to X are being taught at schools, to keep a watch of the workings of SCERT and BOSEM, to stop both teachers and students from using intoxicants.
Further, MSF will take active role in saving eco-system/environment and will pursue to get 50 or 25 percent concession on transport fare for students and also will take active role in other issues which are related to students.
The function was attended by Prof W Nabakumar Singh, Dean, School of Human and Environmental Science, Manipur University; Longjam Umakanta Meitei; and Potsangbam Dhanakumar Singh, Chairman, Board of Secondary Education Manipur and H Amuba, senior lecturer of Lilong Higher Secondary Madrassa as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
