Imphal, Mar 23 :  20 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 26 Sector AR under IGAR(S) provided assistance to the Thamlakhuren village in Chandel district on 22 Mar 13 for a ‘Memorial Stone Erection’. The memorial stone was erected in the memory of Late Honorary Captain Retd. Kh. Rengting Lamkang who had served in the 1st Naga Regt.
Brig Rajiv Mankotia, VSM, Cdr 26 Sector Assam Rifles, Chief Guest of the ceremony inaugurated the memorial stone and also paid homage. During his interaction with the residents of Thamlakhuren village, the Commander promised the villagers of the unstinted support of Assam Rifles towards the locals and Ex-Servicemen. He also mentioned that the Ex-Servicemen formed a very important part of the society and were a media who bring the Security Forces and locals closer to each.
The ceremony was attended by Rev. J Simon, Pastor, Mr. D. Jamesing Chief Secretary and other members of the village council. The unit also provided water and light refreshment on the request of the villagers. Villagers applauded the efforts of 20 Assam Rifles and expressed their heartfelt gratitude and undeterred support towards the Force. The effort of Assam Rifles will certainly go a long way in strengthening the bond between the locals and the security forces and is a true testimony of the Assam Rifles being called the true “Friends of the People of Manipur”.
