IMPHAL, April 16: In a follow up to its investigation regarding the Satyabhama murder case, police have recorded the statement of a fourth person. Sources said the follow up investigation has revealed certain aspects of the case which were unknown till now.
It may be mentioned that the police have already arrested three accused in the case. The dead body of Ningombam Satyabhama, a 31 year old Junior Research Fellow at the DBT of Pathology, RIMS was found abandoned at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon early this month.
According to a reliable source, the Special Investigation Team constituted to investigate Case FIR No. 24 (4) 2013 IBG PS V/S 302/34 IPC registered by Irilbung police station of Imphal East District with regard to the killing has interrogated an accused.
Sources said the fourth arrested suspect has been identified as Phunsokwung alias Ahok (32), son of Stephen Phungsokwung of Ukhrul Sanakeithel and presently staying along the Naga River at North AOC, Imphal and that was interrogated by a SIT team led by Addl SP Imphal East, Rajen.
The source identified him to be the man who was mentioned to be still missing from the police by the DGP during a press conference announcing the arrest of the three accused on April 9 at the conference hall of the Imphal West District Police Head Quarter.
Sources revealed that according to the SIT recorded statement, Phunsokwung was the first to befriend Satyabhama even before she met Toijam James (another accused) with whom she later got involved.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt that until the SIT investigation is completed, the exact number of accused in the case cannot be ascertained.
On the other hand, the Asti ceremony of late N Satyabhama Devi will be held tomorrow and the JAC and other organizations along with the general public will offer floral tributes at Bashikhong Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukon where her dead body was found.
