Imphal, July 1: No community can develop if it’s disunited. Development awaits us if stay united and co-exist peacefully. This was stated by Saikul MLA Yamthong Haokip while inaugurating the 37th three-days-long youth-cum-sports meet organised by Salam Patong Sporting Youth Club under the theme ‘Harnessing Talent for Change’.
He further said that the Vaiphei community originated in Salam Patong village after leaving the then Burma, now known as Myanmar. The club was established in 1977 but till now there is no development in the area.
“We need unity among the Vaipheis if we have to stay together as one and for the Vaipheis to shine in future.”
He said that he had seen little unity here in Salam Palong village since the last few years.
Talking about his decision to repair the existing Salam Patong Public Health Sub-Centre, he said that he had sanctioned Rupees 25 lakhs from his local area development fund to repair the run-down building of Salam Patong PHC.
Kuki communities have the full-fledged power to exercise their rights to develop the village though there are youths, women and other village authorities or committee.
Assuring the people of Salam Patong that he will construct a bridge over the Khoikai River, he said that the road which connects to the rest of the state is in a very vulnerable condition.
“If there is disunity among the people, no development can be initiated in the area even after requests are made. If there is unity among the people, I will work in the interest of people after looking what is lacking in the area,” he added.
In the inauguration function, Assistant professor Thanthang Vaiphei of MU and SDO/SDM, Henglep Soiminlein Vaiphei were present as the president and guest of honour respectively. Colourful and cultural dance were performed by the youths of Vaiphei.
