IMPHAL, May 15: A group of Border Security Force (BSF) at Heitupokpi was attacked by exploding an improvised explosive device (IED) at Wangjing Heitupokpi 10 km east of the Thoubal Police Station at around 4.45 p.m. However, no BSF personnel sustained injuries in the said incident.

According to a source, the BSF personnel who had a narrow escape from the powerful IED attack were posted at Wangjing Tekcham Leikai. They are said to be personnel of “D” coy of 116 BN BSF.

When they went out of their post on foot and patrolled walking on both sides of the road, an IED which may have been planted earlier was exploded through a remote control device said sources. The IED was planted on the southern portion of the road opposite Okram Leirak between Heirok Part-I and Wangjing Heitupokpi.

The bomb exploded loudly  leaving a crater four feet deep and seven feet in diameter at the scene of the incident. Following reports that a powerful IED remained unexploded at another place near the spot, police cordoned off the suspected area but with night falling, it was inconvenient to detect the said IED. Sources said that the bomb detection exercise would be conducted in the morning by the bomb detection squad.Paonam Brojen Singh, MLA Wangjing Tentha inspected the area after the incident.

Meanwhile, a powerful IED was found planted at the roadside of Pukhao-Shantipur under Sagolmang police station of Imphal East at around 10 a.m. The bomb was found inside a gunny bag by a patrol party of 10 AR at Sagolmang Post who informed the police. Police diffused the bomb along with bomb experts in the afternoon.
