Govt not sure of time frame for final Naga accord

NEW DELHI, Jun 25: Almost a year after the Naga framework agreement was signed by the government with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah), the largest Naga insurgent group, a top government official told The Hindu that they were still not sure of giving a “time frame” for the final peace pact. Another official said the insur-gent group had gone back on its demand for “full sovereignty.”

As announced by the JCILPS, protest demonstrations were staged at different places of Imphal West district in pursuit of the popular demand for enforcement of ILPS or a similar mechanism in the State. Apart from forming human chains, sit-in-protests were staged at Khagempalli, Kwakeithel, Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi, Sayang, Tera Keithel, Naoremthong, Sangaiprou, Lukram Leirak and Takyel road. The protesters stood in rows and shouted slogans such as “ILPS must be enforced in Manipur”, “Convert the two pending Bills into Acts”, “A new Bill must be passed”, “Translate all the points agreed between the Government of Manipur and JCILPS into action”, “We condemn declaration of Kh Ratan as a wanted man” etc.
