Some of these young MLAs are interesting. They talk about the welfare of poor men and show readiness to work for uplifting living condition of the hapless people. But God knows what will happen later on after they have worked for some time more. Like them other representatives also need to identify the areas where they should focus. In the recent election too many firebrand MLAs lost in the fight, because they kept themselves aloof from the common masses. With the dark glasses on they moved. The dark glass stood in between the voters and the candidates. Eye contact could not be established as the voters could not know to which direction the candidates with the glass on were looking. Either they were dozing or looking to a different direction. At the end they suffered dismal defeat. While talking to the common masses they acted as if they were princes, who required no election to reach the coveted post. Their sudden change of life style after victory in the election reveals a false image like the square peg in the round hole and the poor voters find it awkward to get close to them. That marks the beginning of alienation between voters and representatives. Like the big and famous they can put on the finest dress to conform to the situation but among the common masses they look awesome. Some of the representatives competed in wearing latest designer wears and Cartier glasses. They talked openly loud enough among themselves to be heard by the common people about the dresses they wore. There is nothing wrong with that as long as common masses are not around them. But once the poor common masses have descended on the scene the topic should be changed. Elected representatives must behave as the true representatives of the people. They are different from bureaucrats, who can maintain silence without listening to what others say. Bureacrats are born to do that, to act according to the dictate of the Government. Like the big politicians, who think and work keeping the interest of the common masses above all our representatives must attempt to carry along with them the voters by talking about the poor people and doing for them only. Don’t change life styles after you have won the election; if you do that victory is yours for all time to come. As one joins electoral politics one must inculcate the habit of keeping folks happy by listening to their genuine demands. Anything that cannot be done must be rejected. In creating false hope by pretending to be all in all in getting developmental programmes for the respective constituencies more enemy is created. Plead the inability to do without hurting the sentiments of the masses. Nothing wrong in disclosing the limitation of the elected representatives in performing duties. In doing that the confidence of the masses can be won. What is required is keeping up the motto to work for the welfare of the common masses. Such representatives will continue to be the chum of the masses. No doubt some of these MLAs have won the hearts and mind of the masses living in the state. Keep it up.

Politicians are the delight of the media. That’s why national media both print and electronic extensively quote the views expressed by politicians on any given matter. Whenever there is darkness they find the way out of impasse, they open public mind. Their views are important for they speak out boldly least bothering about the consequences that he or she may face. Perhaps they have been trained to speak fearlessly when it comes to attacking rivals be it the ruling by the opposition or vice versa. They use choicest words, which sometimes evoke amusement to hear. It happens in politics, politicians, who are habitual liars fade out quicker than expected. If they won in the electoral politics in the first attempt when the electorates were quite ignorant about their activities it was purely luck that shaped their destiny. Such politicians are exposed after talking to the masses. Their level of thinking leaves much to be desired. Such politicians face natural death in politics. Our leaders remain worrying over something that is uncalled for. When they should have shown concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state they talk about something else. The common men do not want to talk about Lok Sabha election as it is two years away. Some politicians talk about advancing Lok Sabha election time. Election is a burden on the common masses and also costly. These members of the Lok Sabha were elected by spending billions of rupees. Their membership should last the full term for which they have been elected. Election time cannot be advanced. It will be wrong to assume that the entire masses are for advancing the time and date of the Lok Sabha election. It should be held as per scheduled earlier, that is 2014. That will send a message to the entire world that Indians can uphold democratic values that include holding of election as per scheduled. Politics is a game of patience. Common masses weigh the pros and cons of the words uttered by the leaders and if the words uttered do not match with the expectation of the masses they are rejected. And if they utter in tune with the people’s expectation they are hailed as the true leader of the masses. Change needs to be brought about and it should take the country towards the path of development. But nobody will like the change for the worst. Earnest appeal therefore is made to the leaders of the opposition to focus on the issues rather than demanding advancing the time of election. Moreover no party will improve their strength by advancing the time of election by one year or two. The country will witness repetition of the same verdict. What we saw in the last election will be repeated when the election is held. In the same manner fire brand politicians suffering electoral defeat in Manipur many at the centre will suffer the same fate. This declaration will not go wrong. Do not attempt to hasten the process of death that is bound to come naturally.

Why it becomes a necessity to arrange grand feast every time we hold a function at home. Common masses it seems have cooked up the theory that no programme is complete unless there is a grand feast added to it. People of the state following different faiths and religions as a tradition hold various programmes every year. Barring one or two all these programmes are followed up by sumptuous meal that is offered to the gatherings. It is wastage of time and money. There is ushob, (grand feast), arranged by the family members in memory of their dear and near ones, who had passed away. Extension of merry making is not encouraging. For instance offerings to the departed soul can be ended with the holding of shradha function that serves the real purpose for which the function is held. Unnecessarily it is extended with the addition of deevosh. For those who do not understand Manipuri tradition deevosh means grand feast studded with fish. It is an added burden to the family members, whose lovely member had passed away. Likewise marriage ceremony can be ended with the tying of knots by the bride and the groom. This function too is extended with the addition of Mapam Chakkouba, an added burden to the bride’s family members, who had emptied their coffer in arranging dowry for the bride and marriage programme. Precious time is also wasted as one obliges the invite given to him or her by the friends and relatives to attend the grand feast. At least two hours time is wasted in attending a chakkouba. Government employees shirk their official duties to attend chakkouba or deevosh. Who can stop these unnecessarily extended programmes? A poor man will be ridiculed if he floats the idea of stopping chakkouba and deevosh, so he will never be able to do that. The rich and famous will be reduced to the butt of joke earning the title miser if they start it. Hence the onus of bringing a change to these added burdens lie with the civil organisations. Civil organisations can launch awareness programme to make everyone realise that the change is for the betterment of all. The question arises who can advise these civil organisations to launch the awareness programmes. Ever since an underground organisation issued dictates against helping examinees during the conduct of examination the practice of helpers swarming examination centres had disappeared. Prior to that even brothers scaled the roof of the school building to pass a piece of paper to his sister in the examination hall. Morality was thrown in the wind. It is just like the family members asking others in the same family to carry out illegal activities. When Amir Khan had his hairs shaved off to act in Ghajni a popular Hindi film thousands of youths followed suit. It means if someone, who is loved and respected by all stops extension of merry making large number of people will follow. That must happen as that will go a long way in bettering the economy of the people living in the state.

The bomb blast at Keishampat left behind three injured persons and a completely burnt scooter. The bomb was planted in the tool box of the two wheeler. Would the owner have given the vehicle willingly if he knew it would be used in planting and subsequent blasting of a bomb? Whose scooter could it be? Police have known that the scooter did not have chassis number. Did the executor of the plan deliberately erase the chassis to do away with the link between the owner of the vehicle and the incident? As there is no chassis number the law enforcing agencies will find uphill task in tracking down the owner of the scooter. In Mumbai the owner of an Ambassador car, which was used in blasting bomb could be established from the chassis number. The mangled body of the car revealed the chassis number and the Hindustan Motors the manufacturing company of the brand car could exactly spot the agent to which the car was given and the agent in turn located the buyer. But when the police went to arrest the owner of the car within two hours of the bomb blast the entire family had fled to Dubai. Police swift action was outsmarted but the family known as Tiger Memon had been shattered. Mumbai blast claimed more than 100 lives. One of the family members who had connection with the terrorist Dawood readily extended help in carrying out the deadly attack, which killed innocent people. The car packed with explosive materials was parked in front of a cinema hall. It is unfortunate some elements have started using crowded area in Manipur for carrying out their nefarious design of attacking security men. In spite of series of dharnas and protests launched by people of the state not to plant bombs at the area where local people inhabit these elements resort to the same tactics of hurling hand grenade or planting of bomb at the gate be it for demanding extortion money or for causing intimidation. As if they are stone without eyes and ear they act according to their whims without listening to the demand of the common people. They do not attempt to go together with the masses. No fish can swim in the lake where there is no water. Father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi could carry the entire masses in his fight against the mighty Britishers because as he fought the mighty force his main concern was the safety of the masses. Therefore he launched bloodless war. Extremes can meet with extremes. They are born to do that. If they are fighting for a cause they must think of adopting the strategy to carry the masses along with them. That can be achieved by doing self introspection. Such bomb blast in the crowded area will not yield good result. Rather it will end up getting condemnation from all sections of the society. Let it be the last one and nothing of this nature must happen. The state is fed up with the crimes of such nature. Should not we learn from the mistake committed?

Vehicle lifters are prowling everywhere. They work in group chalking out strategy and operate like professionals. Police caught too many of them but they escaped scot free. Thieves’ mentality remains unknown. How they operate and the strategies they adopt need to be elaborately described. Vehicle owners do not know when and how the lifters act, so they carelessly leave behind their vehicles on the street and courtyard. If they the modus operandi adopted by the thieves they will be able to take precautionary measures and they may keep their vehicles safe beyond the reach of the thieves. The owners, who have been deprived of their two wheelers by the thieves have different stories to tell, many sound funny and others mindboggling. While negotiating the price of vegetable the two wheeler, which was parked nearby was pushed away slowly to disappear. When he turned back what he found was the imprint of the tyre. He was a miserly person. The thief knew he would waste nearly one hour to bargain the price of coriander leaves worth Rs five. Then another had his Honda Acitva gone within minutes of his entry to a hotel to have a bottle of cold drink. Does not the story sound funny? In the two incidents the owners’ foolishness is exposed. The duo was different from other smart guys, who buy vegetables without actually getting down from the vehicle and exchanging the item with money by remaining on the driver’s seat. A lady employee, whose two-wheeler was lost said she parked the vehicle at the roadside of the Kangla pat. Manipur will continue to hear the news of the loss of vehicles as long as owners show carelessness in parking their vehicles. One must be vigilant of one’s own vehicle. Do not park the vehicle at the area which does not have care taker. Drug addicts joining the profession is a dangerous trend. Because the addicts need money more than anybody else to buy drugs. They show readiness to do anything if they would be given some money. Their thinking capability having been disturbed by the drugs they cannot see the harms they are doing to the society. They can be used even for hurling hand grenade. This is sorry state of affairs which we have witnessed in Manipur. Thieves are everywhere waiting for the opportune moment to begin their job, therefore vehicle owners should calculate the time being taken in meeting friends or buying goods from the shop. If they would depart from their vehicles for prolonged period of time they should use extra locking system to deceive the thief. Tuition goers use a method inserting an iron rod in the engine before going to the teacher’s house. Similar method can be applied by others also. Manipur police having talked to the thieves might have known how the thieves operate. Speak it out to make owners wiser that will be of immense help in controlling the menace of vehicle lifting from the crowded bazaar area.

By nature as a human being we show the tendency to be sympathetic to others’ sufferings. Emotions burst out when the sufferers happen to be our friends and family members. We touch the hands and legs of our father and mother as if to give soothing balm to show our love to them. Such instinctive reaction to the sufferings of our parents, brothers and sisters reveal we care for them. There is a saying love has a need to be shown by action. Mere lip service cannot not reveal our love and care for needy persons. Therefore VVIPS attempt to talk to the victims of natural calamities or communal clash to assuage the wounded feelings. Without meeting them and without visiting the place that had been affected the VVIPs can act based on the reports of the bureaucrats. Like the VVIPS we too enquire as and when we see somebody weeping what had happened to him or her. This is simple reflection of everybody’s desire to extend help to each other. But one turns away without giving help when the quantum of requirement of the needy person shoots up higher than expected. A poor man may be able to spare a few amount of rupees to help someone. But he turns away if the amount touches three figure or more. That however does not mean that he is unsympathetic to the sufferings of the other people. He loves others. His problem is he does not have even a single pie to give to others. The wealthy and famous men and women are lucky they can show generosity to others. But they too will turn away if the demand does not match with the expectation. Generosity of a man can be known simply by visiting his house. Those who do not help even brothers and sisters will never think of serving other needy persons. Likewise a person known for living in his own with the family members around will be of no help to others. Mountaineers require training. Their endurance and stamina are tested before they set out to conquer high mountains. Likewise a man who finds solace with family members only will not do well as a public man. His first attention after becoming a representative of the public will be to create room for him to expand. Ministers and MLAs who show tendency to construct palatial building will cease to be true representative of the masses. That nature reveals their desire to remain aloof. By constructing beautiful houses they plan to bury their past of having nothing. What they do not know in constructing palatial building is that they have reduced themselves to the butt of common men’s joke. Could the house be constructed with the perk, pay and perquisites they are getting. Voters should think of kicking out such leaders from public life. They can be described in short form as “looters”.

Corruption can be ended

Everyone says corruption is the root cause of all evils in the society. The question remains has anybody done anything to wipe out corruption. One waits for the occasion to grab the opportunity and after getting the benefit by hook or crook the same person starts talking of the harms done to the society by corruption. But the Government employee talking about corruption sounds funny. At best what he can say is what he has done at his level to end the menace of corruption. When you go to an engineering department you will see that the files never move unless you grease the palm. Unsurprisingly the same employee, who demands Rs 1000 for entering the file in the record book, will talk of rampantly done corruption at the ministerial level. What they do not know is they too contribute to expanding social menace. But there are still a large number of men and women who still uphold their belief that India is free from corruption. “If India is a corrupt land how could my poor father become a Government employee? I know the manner with which my father became a Government employee.” Then there are also a large number of men and women, who became Government employees teaching Hindi and other subjects after writing a letter to the top executive of the country. Then these engineers all from Manipur who are working at IT Park scattered at different parts of the country. What did they pay? Nothing. They are drawing nearly Rs one lakh in a month. Cowards who do not work hard will face uphill task in finding Government job, they observe. The dullards coerce their poor parents into believing that they are leading a vagabond life style as they are not supported by their parents in finding a Government job. The gullible poor parent all of sudden turn protagonists of their waylaid children’s theory and begin talking about corruption at different level wherever they sit. What these foolish parents do not know is that their children, who could not do well in any field, will not do well as a Government servant also. But qualified and highly educated youths do not talk about corruption. Men and women, who earn hefty income as Government servant, talk about corruption as they are not so sure of their siblings getting the job befitting the amount they had spent on their education. Education is being used not to enrich knowledge but as ambassador for oneself to become a Government employee. The present day lifestyle is very costly. One cannot afford to live peacefully unless one becomes a Government employee. Government employee appointment norms need to be amended. If that is done nobody will talk of corruption. If that is done nobody will come to offer bribe money to get Government job. That is called making both ends meet. That will abridge the gap between haves and have nots. These days Government employees are rich and unemployed poor. The unemployed men and women lead a lacklustre lifestyle with the grim future looking stark.

Discussion should be followed by action. Unless that is done it is just like kicking up dust and inhaling them. That is injurious to health. Something that would have remained buried is dug out when experts try to beat down rivals while holding discussion on matters of public importance. The peace of mind gets disturbed when experts used invectives to score the rivals. The views expressed should be sweet to hear and the common men should be able to grasp what is transpired between experts. Because it contains something that cannot be fathomed by common people. Common people desire that able men come out and do the work for the betterment of all without bothering them. If not for this reason why should they rejoice when VVIPS come to their areas? They had put all their hope and aspiration on the able men. Therefore discussion for the sake of discussion does not serve any purpose. The best orator finds the opportunity to beat down the fellow participants in the discussion or seminar. Unable to face the best debater, it happens at the end,the participants backbite each other. The participants at the seminar or discussion came to present their views. It is a human nature everyone wants their views to be upheld by others. In case a view is buffeted by other they begin looking for a way to usher in their views. Not only in politics in discussion also there is groupism. Because they do not want to return home empty handed so they all begin attacking each other during discussion rather than picking up the issues for which discussion was held. Nothing will come out of such discussion that aims at eulogising self. What you did and what others are doing is irrelevant while discussing matters of national importance. Discussion should always end with suggestion. Such suggestion must be acceptable to all including the law making bodies and the executive class. If the discussion elongates longer than necessary consider the end will not be fruitful. Discussion on important issues should not last more than a few hours. If it elongates there must be some reason behind it. Nevertheless it is a good development that civil organisations have shown keen interest in holding discussion on matters of public importance. This will make common people realise what is wrong and what is right. It is a good development. Manipur is alive because the common people understand the need for keeping a state kicking and alive. They cannot be ridiculed when the wrongs are carried here and there. They have nothing to do with all these crimes and corruption which have eaten in to the vitals of the society..

Drive against foreigners though belated is a welcome step for it will go a long way in the protection of the original communities living in the state of Manipur. Too many communities had been wiped out in the past from their own motherland overpowered by intruders. In India we have witnessed of Tripuris being outnumbered by the intruders. Similar fate awaits Manipuris in their own land. That situation must not arise. The impending danger stares in our eyes. Future generation will not pardon present regime if we cannot do anything to protect our land. At Jiribam the original people of the state have been outnumbered by the outsiders. In the near future the constituency will be represented by outsiders. In Assam Bodos cannot defend themselves. The clash involving two communities Bodos and Muslims in Assam has revealed what is in store for the two communities. But the root cause of the incident was funny. It had nothing to do with the hate and hatred campaign between the two communities. Despite exposure of the root cause of the recent clash between Bodos and Muslims, some elements detrimental to the well being of the country as a whole and the NE region in particular spread false rumours saying that there had been massacre of Muslims in Assam. Bodo area is now predominantly occupied by Bangladeshi Muslims. If Bodos cannot defend themselves Manipuris too will not be able to defend themselves. Because Manipur like Boroland is different from other big states. It is time everyone including the administrator understands the grim reality facing Manipuris. We are living are in a precarious condition with the meagre financial assistance given by the Union Government to run the state administration and help the needy people. If the outsiders settle in the state the little help the state is getting will end up being devoured by the intruders. Moreover foreign nationals occupying scarcely available land will cause a sea change to the lifestyle of the people of the state. Reserved area both at the hills and valley area will be used by these faceless people. Our land is too small. Minuscule population that do not touch even three millions will be like a bucket of water in the vast ocean. Its presence will not felt. Therefore the drive, which has been started, should spread out to reach every nook and corner of the state. If the outsiders presence in Imphal is dangerous it is equally dangerous in the hill and rural areas of the state also. The first thing a refugee does is to locate a place where they can stay and then they will think of expanding their territory. Bodos felt threatened by the presence of foreigners in their homeland. So they waited for the occasion to strike. But Bodos acted unwisely so the consequence of the fight between the two communities was felt by all people living in the NE region. The onus of evicting the foreigners lies on the administrators not on the communities no matter whether they are affected or not.
