Dr. S. Keshorjit Singh, Faculty Member, MIMS, M.U, while delivering his speech as resource person pointed out that disturbing state of law and orders, attitude of state and non state players towards businessmen, bad debts from customers, government policy, loss of market share, logistics and transportation bottlenecks are some of the challenges faced by Start-up Entrepreneurs in Manipur. Every entrepreneur needs to experience failures many times to climb the ladder of success, he said.

Today entrepreneurs are occupying the central role in all economic activities and development of a region or of a country.  This is because of entrepreneurial energy, creativity and motivation that trigger the production and sale of new products and services. Entrepreneurship has assumed super importance for accelerating economic growth both in developed and developing countries. It promotes capital formation and creates wealth in the country. It reduces unemployment and poverty and it’s a pathway to prosperity. So, it is hope and dreams of millions of individuals around the world to be entrepreneur, he said.

Starting a business and becoming an entrepreneur is both exciting and challenging.  Exciting because he will become a boss, achieve financial independence, enjoy creative freedom, use his skills and knowledge and so on, he observed.

Roshnikumar Yambem, Managing Director Globizs Web Solutions Pvt Ltd said that every entrepreneur should learn ‘failed fast, succeed fast’. A business cannot succeed without experiencing failures in the initial stage. Success comes only after the failures are coped up with. Budding entrepreneur, before launching their product, should have a clear cut long vision, good business plan and the scope of customers who would use the product. Without customers, every business flops, he added.

Stating that entrepreneurs should study the problems, customer target etc. before initiating a business, he said that the lean startup event will be instrumental in reducing risk factors involved in starting a business venture.

The Lean Startup event was organized with support from the sponsoring Partners like Marina Spring, Shija Hospitals, Babina Diagnostics, FRANCHISE India, Hotel Classic, Imphal, Globizs Web Solutions, HVS Constructions Materials Pvt. Ltd while MIMS, Manipur University, Korea Manipuri Association (KMA), North American Manipur Association (NAMA), Likla – Thangjam Agro Industries Pvt. Meetei Folk artist Manka’s Chingda satpi ready to launch

The album which has taken almost a year to complete is a collection of 10 tracks which have been sourced from some of the finest unforgettable folk melodies of Manipur. Mangka’s own father who is also the artistic director of Laihui, a Imphal based traditional music ensemble has given music to the album. The album comes in a CD+DVD package exquisitely designed by Design Stash, a premium design house from Nagaland. “Folk music is generally not composed. They are a spontaneous reaction to our environment or our work culture. We have tried to resonate a feeling of nostalgia through the imageries and illustrations. I was surprised when the talented young Naga designers brought 3 books on Manipuri traditional textiles for reference,” says the exalted producer Doren. He is also collaborating with Kok Designs Imphal trying to create a different ambient for the launch event.

Chingda satpi has been produced by raising funds through pre-order and generous support from friends in India and around the world. The revenue from music sales is almost marginal now due to piracy and free sharing of music and the producer thought it best to follow such a strategy to cover the production cost. Ourvillage, the production company of Oinam Doren has also tied up with other organisations to give the launch a grand scale. Epao.net as media partner, Northeast Buzz as online partner, Classic Group of Hotels as Venue partner, Manipuri Association of Canada & Eastern ceramics as associate sponsor, Times Music (a division of Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd) as digital partner and Laihui as music partner and executive producer.

Padmashree Heisnam Sabitri (international theatre personality), Guru Rewben Mashangva(national award winning folk musician) and Somi Roy (founder, managing director of Emasi foundation) will grace the event as Chief Guest, Guest of Honor and President respectively. Mangka and incredible kids from Laihui will entertain the crowd during the event.

IROM SHARMILA, MAKE BY INDIA CAMPAIGN

Press release

Human Rights Committee of Manipur Students’ Association Delhi launched one month campaign on “IROM SHARMILA, MAKE BY INDIA CAMPAIGN”. The campaign was commenced today(26th Jan.2015) at the University of Delhi and it will last till 28th of Feb, 2015.

The campaign aims to showcast the contradictory of India’s policy of “make in India” and discourse in the North East region especially Manipur. In the 65 years under Indian administration, the government shows no interest to promote productivity of Manipur. Once a self sustained Manipuri economy has now become completely dependent on the import economy based on National Highway. So far their only product is more Police personals, VDF(Village Defence Force) and Special Police Officers (SPO), which results in the brutality and oppression to the people. All the stake holders of the state, political parties and civil society members have silently endorse the politics of AFSPA and its practice.

  • Indian National Congress strongly opposed the British colonial law- Armed forces special powers ordinance 1942.The same INC passed the Armed Forces Special Power Act in 1958 in more brutal way after some amendment in the Parliament.
  • The BJP resolved that they will never repeal as long as India exist.
  • The regional political parties like Trinamool congress, AIADMK, DMK, BSP, Samajwadi, Janata Dal Parivar, BJD continue to support this draconian law. AAP has no difference on AFSPA.
  • Most of the Indian thinkers, scholars, personalities, journalists have chosen the conspiracy of silence. Majority of the Indian continue to ignore AFSPA. 95% of the Indian intelligentsia believes that India could not sustain without AFSPA.
  • Indian nationalism could not imagine India without AFSPA.
  • Most Gandians who believe in  non-violence hates Irom Sharmila and people struggle.
  • Indian political ideology and political thoughts, arthasastrya, religious texts justify everything and anything to sustain in the name of politics and security of the state.
  • Casteist, sexist and racist mentality does not allow to sense the pain and trauma of the people under military regime, its politics and the practice of AFSPA.
  • India hopes to produce more economy, entrepreneurship, business and compete with other countries around the world to make India a producing economy and propose “Make in India” programme. But in the case of Manipur and other military controlled areas, it produces more police personals, Village Defence Force (VDF), Special Police Officers (SPO), which again produce more brutality and oppression to the people.
  • After the annexation of Manipur by Dominion of India, in the last 65 years, the once self sustained Manipuri economy has now become completely dependent on the import economy based on National Highway.
  • India makes Irom Sharmila who is now carrying the longest hunger strike in the history of mankind. She has been on fifteen  years of fast against AFSPA.

Hence street corner meeting, area meeting, class mobilisation and online campaign will be the part of this campaign. MSAD appeal all the people of Manipur and students to support the campaign.

Dear All,
The Manipuri Meitei Association Bangalore, celebrated its Annual Ningol Chakouba on the 9th of Nov 2014. For more details and pictures from the event please click on the link.
The Manipuri Meitei Association Bangalore organised its annual Ningol Chakouba event on the 9th of Nov 2014. The function was held at the Senate Hall, Central university campus, near Mysore bank circle. This year the turnout was more than expected. The day began with the Kitchen arriving at the scene first. The first dish started coming out of the kitchen by 9 in the morning. Almost all the dishes were ready before the arrival of the guests and Ningols. The place was spruced up to the best of the association’s ability. Lights were ready, chairs ready, banner ready, camera ready, and the food was almost ready. It was time.
Ningols, dressed in their best traditional attire started arriving by 11.00 AM. They were warmly received by members of the association. Slowly and steadily a stream of people started arriving at the venue. The hall started to fill up. It was the best time for a game of housie. Everyone enthusiastically took part and the usual shouting of the numbers echoed in the hall.
In the meantime, there was a photo booth set up by the Manipur Photography Club, Bengaluru unit. The MPC Bengaluru unit was the photography partner of this year’s event. They set up an entire studio with strobe lights and white background and the works. It was quite a sight to see. Many people got their pictures clicked.

After a while, the Ningols had their lunch. The much awaited lunch was served by volunteers from MMAB as well as BMSA (Bangalore Manipur Student’s Association). Utti, Eromba, Champhoot, Singju, Angaoba, Ataoba, Sahol Hawai, Hei Thonnga, Khamen Angaoba, Achar and Kher were the menu. The kitchen team did a fabulous job in making sure that the food was made on time and served on time. Due to lack of space in the lunch area, the lunch had to be served in two batches.
As the Ningols settled down after lunch, MMAB officials were introduced to the crowd. Everyone was cheered by the sporting crowd who showed up to show their support for MMAB’s event. MMAB is truly honoured to have this kind of support and hope to get your support in the future too.
Dakhina is an essential item without which the Ningol Chakouba is not complete. Within the limited budget MMAB gifted a small Dakhina to all the Ningols who came. Each one of them was happy to get the Dakhina, it did not matter whether it was large or small. What mattered was the gesture.
After this, it was time for the bumper housie. The last event of the day and it was time for farewell with a hope to see each other again next year.
MMAB thanks all the volunteers who took out time to come and help us, the executive members who went out of their way to make sure that the event was a success, the Manipur Photography Club Bengaluru unit for their enthusiasm and support, and to all the brothers and sisters who could make it to this event.
Manipur na yaiphare. MMAB na yaiphare.

Among these problems, ‘Extortion’ is the main hindrance that discourages the spirit of the entrepreneurs, Dr. Dhaballi maintained.

Ningol Chakkouba, the most loved festival of Manipuris, especially among meeteis, signifying age old culture of strong bonds between ningols and pibas in the society of Manipur , was celebrated in England on the 11th of November 2012 at Borstal , Kent, England with many ningols from other parts of Europe participating in the feast.

This day is a ningol’s day out when pibas are obliged to invite  ‘ningols’ at their place for  a ‘chaak’, exchanging gifts and pleasantries apart from sharing many fond memories .This festival strengthens the bond of love between brothers and sisters, parents and daughters and friends. This festival reaffirms family ties and values in the society when the occasion re-kindles the love and affection between them.

For the people of Manipur origin in Europe, this festival has become a key to uphold the tradition far away from home, even more strengthening the feeling of oneness and the emotional bonding among the members across Europe. This is a special day to pass on a beautiful culture & heritage to the next generation of Manipuris living in the continent.

The event was closed by exchanging khudols (gifts) , greetings, blessings, and reaffirmations by the participants to celebrate the occasion again with the same spirit and vigour in the next year.

Message from some of the Ningols who attended the occasion              :

Hi All, Me and my family want to personally thank for the NC celebration. Must say it was a grand success. Gauri although don’t speak yet but she was narrating in her language to us about all that happened. She was really excited. My husband Sutharsan also had a very good experience with people, food and above all, our culture. Thanks EMA, for keeping few of our tradition alive even being so far away from our motherland. Promila D. Sutharsan Huidrom .Oslo-Norway

Dear EMA committee and all members, I cannot begin to express my admiration and gratitude for all your hard work and generosity in organising such a fabulous Ningol Chakouba celebration and making us ( Ningols) feel so special. New Delhi, October 20, 2014: Delhi stood firmly behind the Music Fraternity yesterday and lent its earnest support for the concert titled #FORASSAM. A packed Blue Frog witnessed the biggest names of the music industry as all the stars performed live to an enthralled audience. Spearheaded by Papon and Vishal Dadlani, the concert at Blue Frog in Delhi was held to help generate funds for the people who have been ravaged by the recent floods in the state of Assam.

Said Papon, “The intention was to generate awareness and attention about the flood situation in Assam and generate as much relief funds as possible towards the cause. We will collect the funds and hand it over to the chief minister’s fund soon”.

“This is probably the biggest concert in Indian music history where the music fraternity has come forward for a cause. Flood is an annual phenomenon in Assam, but due to some reasons, it doesn’t get properly highlighted enough to be considered as a national calamity. ” said Vishal.

The third anniversary of the People`™s Campaign for Resurgent Manipur (PCRM) was observed today (18/10/2014). It may be recalled that the Campaign, then known as People`™s Campaign for Assembly Election 2012`™, was launched by concerned citizens of and from the state of Manipur in different parts of the world with a vow to bring about a positive change in the state of affairs in Manipur, starting with an effort to change the political culture and efforts to bring about an issue based electoral politics in the state. The campaign, which was later on renamed in its first anniversary as `People`™s Campaign for Resurgent Manipur`™, was simultaneously launched in different parts of the country, amongst others, in Imphal, New Delhi, Chandigarh, and Chennai on 18th October, 2011 by resolving to work for a new Manipur.

To shape a new political culture and bring about issue based electoral politics in the state, the Campaign marks 15 years as its timeline. Beginning with the Assembly Election of 2012, the Campaign seeks to intervene through public meetings, media and posters. In today`™s observation, it has also endorsed the aims and objectives of the Campaign as well as those resolutions taken during the second anniversary and to further strengthen its network and monitoring of the events and developments in the state and offices, especially the elected representatives.

Keeping its twin objectives of shaping informed discourses on critical issues that confront Manipur and make the democratic process legitimate and vibrant, the decisions to upgrade and strengthen the website of the Campaign was also taken. It was also resolved that the Campaign would carry out its activities in a larger scale in the run up to the next Assembly Election than what was done at the time of 2012 Assembly Elections.

The third anniversary observation today was also marked by a Round Table on `Youth for a Resurgent Manipur`™. Attended by old and new members of the Campaign, students and professionals based in Delhi, the deliberation was moderated by Dr. G. Amarjit Sharma and Dr. Kh. Bijoykumar, faculty members of JNU and three speakers representing the student community, Sunil Gangmei, Azad Babu and Usham Rojio, initiated the discussion. The speakers put forward the issues of unemployment, deteriorating education system, ethnocentric conception of Manipur and consumerist, self-centered and individualist ethos amongst youths as some of the key concerns. Taking part in the deliberations, other members also expressed concern over the shrinking of arable land and tendency to seek private solution, one member citing the culture of private tuition as an example of that tendency. Moderators of the deliberation, Dr. G. Amarjit Sharma raises the issue of what and who constitutes public voice while Dr. Kh. Bijoykumar talks about the movement of youths from rural to urban areas in search of government job by leaving aside the agrarian sector as issues that we must reflect.

Special NE Initiative by Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar MP, Bangalore

Independent Rajya Sabha Member from Bangalore has a Special NE Initiative

Guwahati, October 16, 2014: Rajeev Chandrasekhar, an Independent MP from Bangalore, through his charitable trust, the Flags of Honour Foundation, organised a relief camp in Goalpara district recently. The camp was held in partnership with Utsah, a Guwahati based NGO that works in the area of Child Protection.

The day long camp saw essential relief material like blankets, baby food items and oil being distributed among women and children. Relief was extended to the girl children from over 200 homes who have been suffering due to lack of sanitation facilities and malnutrition in the flood affected villages of Narayanpara and Ambari villages in Goalpara district in lower Assam.

The gesture was an expression to show solidarity by the people of Karnataka to those of Assam. Rajeev Chandrasekhar has in his two terms in the Rajya Sabha been one of the few members to espouse the causes and concerns of the North East. Amongst others, he has talked extensively about racist attacks against citizens from the North East in Bangalore and other parts of India, drinking water concerns in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, the expansion of livelihood opportunities for the youth in these regions and need for more air connectivity for Guwahati.

He has always advocated that a vibrantly progressive Northeast is important for a strong India. Recognizing that the floods hitting the north east almost annually are severely jeopardizing the development of the region, he has constantly raised the urgent need for an institutional assessment of the flood problem and for a long term, strategic policy response to the flood problem in the region.

Rajeev Chandrasekhar is a second time MP in the Rajya Sabha, and is from Bangalore. Another event under his Special North East initiative took place on the 14th of October at Leimakhong, Manipur where Mr Chandrasekhar launched a special initiative to provide financial assistance, encouragement and motivation to Veer Naris, Widows and Veterans including World War II Veterans in the North East through the Flags of Honour Foundation.

In 2013, Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar encouraged 20 top emerging entrepreneurs in Nagaland taking the role of Chief Mentor under the Impact 5000’s “The Entrepreneur” campaign. Designed to enhance business skills of 20 top emerging young entrepreneurs in Nagaland who had the ambition and potential to generate substantial growth in their businesses, Mr Chandrasekhar has held that the India narrative would be incomplete if it didn’t have Baichung Bhutia, Mary Kom, Alobo Naga, Soulmate, Atsu Sekhose, Norden Wangdi, Chekrowolu Swuro and countless others from the past, today and in the future and that the Northeast represents many opportunities but the biggest one is its young people and their creativity and talent. “The future is about thousands of entrepreneurs determining the destiny of this region, he said.

The Council Assembly also strongly reaffirmed the severance of political ties with the communal Government of Manipur and the boycott of the ADCs.

The Assembly also condemned the communal action of Manipur police who arrested  Mr N. K. Phungreishung, Secretary of the Shangpun Long (an umbrella organisation of 18 villages) on 6th October, 2014 at Poirou Chingjin under Andro Police station on the ground that he is a sympathiser of the United Naga Council, as Mr Phungreishung was in possession of the programme and on mobilisation for a seminar to be held at Shungriphai village on 11th October, 2014, in which Mr Gaidon Kamei, the General Secretary of the UNC was to be the resource person. Mr Phungreishung was also divested of the Seminar programme and Rs 3400/-.

That the state police force has found reason to detain and harass a citizen for organising a seminar where a UNC official would be speaking reflects the utterly communal orientation of the personnel involved.  The Assembly therefore resolved to place the alarming matter before the Government of India to further register our case for an alternative arrangement outside the Government of Manipur(GoM). The GoM must also respond to this matter and be held responsible for any untoward incident arising out of the highly provocative action of the state police.
